Dr. Louis Barui Waruwu

Dr. Barui K WARUWU, also known as Louis, is an assistant professor in the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, HKBU. Through his ethnographic research, he critically explores the intersection between social media and migration practices, including transnational mothering, migrants’ financial behaviours, community building, and feminist activism. A communication scholar by training, he works extensively with migrants’ grassroots organizations, particularly Indonesian and Filipino migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. His work has been published in reputable international peer-reviewed academic journals, including New Media & Society, Mobile Media & Communication, and Media, Culture & Society.
